CHILLED WATER OUTAGE IN OLD ME

Chilled water will be turned off in the old ME building today at 10:00 a.m. and will be out the duration of the project.

Communication With Contractors in ME Building

June 18, 2014

I have just been informed that a staff member approached one of the construction workers and asked them to stop working because it was too loud. This is inappropriate.  The construction crews have been told that they do not take any direction from any department members and they are to keep working, unless told so by the contractor. 
The appropriate communication protocol is for anyone with concerns and issues to notify me and I will interact with the contractor to resolve any issues.  Unfortunately, it is going to be very noisy for the next 18 months.

CHILLER WATER OUTAGE

June 13, 2014


Old ME will be having a chilled water outage on June 17, 2014 from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  This outage will only affect the UNITE classrooms and ME 10A.  So the computer lab in ME 10A will not have any cooling during this time period.

All other chilled water lines located in old ME will still be functioning.

Lab Vacuum Pumps Outage

Facilities Management will be taking down the lab vacuum pumps on Tuesday, July 17 from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for yearly maintenance.

UPCOMING ELECTRICAL OUTAGES

June 12, 2013


Mortenson has scheduled two electrical outages next week.

The first outage is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, 2014 in the new ME Building from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.  We will have some power from the back up generator.

The second outage is scheduled for Wednesday, June 18, 2014 in the Old ME Building and Akerman from 4:30 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.

FISCAL YEAR CLOSE-OUT: IMPACT ON PURCHASING

Hello!

It is that time of year again; fiscal close-out.
In regards to purchasing, that means that all purchase order requests utilizing a fabrication ID must be turned in no later than Monday, June 23rd.
This will provide us with enough time to enter orders and allow for any unexpected delays in the purchasing process.
*As a friendly reminder, PCards cannot be used for purchasing items with a fabrication ID.
Submitting a purchase order is the only way you may purchase items with a FAB ID year-round; not just during fiscal close-out.*

Paint Fumes in Old ME

As we continue to paint throughout the Zone C (Basement of Link) there may be some strong smells. We are exhausting the area out the West side windows as we go. If there are any questions regarding what products we are using we have the MSDS sheets in our office for anyone to review. There are no hazardous materials being used that would be a cause of concern.

FY15 Fringe Benefit Rates Approved for Use on Sponsored Projects

The University of Minnesota has reached an agreement with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) on the FY15 fringe benefit rates to be charged under the new Simplify Fringe model.  The future rates and the current rates are shown below:

FY15 Fringe Benefit Rates
Academic = 33.8%
Non-Academic = 26.3%
Graduate with UPlan Health = 21.4%
Graduate with GA Health = 16.6%
Trades/Partial Benefits = 7.7%
FY14 Fringe Benefit Rates
Academic = 33.6%
Non-Academic = 36.8%
Student Professional = 23.1%

The new fringe benefit rates should be used in sponsored proposal budgets for all work that will be conducted on or after July 1, 2014.  PI’s and their staff are encouraged to use the new rates in their proposals immediately if the project will be conducted in the next fiscal year.
To accommodate proposals that have already been submitted to SPA, or are in progress in the academic departments, SPA will allow the old rates to be used during a brief period of transition.  However, all proposals submitted to SPA on or after June 23rd will be expected to incorporate the new rates.  EGMS will be updated shortly to reflect the new fringe benefit rates.

The FY15 fringe rate matrix distributed by the Budget Office is attached and will also be posted shortly on the budget policy page found at  http://www.policy.umn.edu/Policies/Finance/Budget/BUDGET.html.  Please keep in mind that, under the University’s Simply Fringe model the new rates apply to all employees, both full time and part time, who are in the rate group.
